Dates and locations for the 8 events in the 2009 Island Tour Summer Series
May 9th Qualicum Bay Resort. This is a private course in Qualicum Bay with camping, RV parking and facilities right on the beach. We are looking forward to a weekend full of disc golf, get there early and bring a tent or RV to make the most of it. The 18 hole disc golf course boasts two sets of teepads, a mixture of tonals and baskets, wide open fairways with a range of difficulty, and a private comfortable setting.
May 23-24 The Pender Bender - Magic Lake. This annual event on Pender Island is a 2 day tournament with camping and facilities a short distance from the course. It attracts many players from outside of western BC and is a really good time all around. The 27 hole course contains a nice mixture of tonals and baskets, with tight technical wooded shots and lots of elevation and rocks. Bring your best hard plastic.
June 20th Campbell River - Coopers Hawk Park. This course is a good mixture of 18 holes of mainly short, technical shots and longer distance drives, set in the woods surrounding a school. Be prepared to hit trees.
July 4th Salt Spring - Mouat Park. This course is 18 holes of heavily treed tonals, with several water hazards and many technical throws required to make par.
July 25 26 Cortes Island. This course is 18 holes of billy-goat style disc golf. Be prepared to hike up and down hills and watch out for nasty rolls. There are a few baskets with a unique design allowing for drop putting through the top of the basket, as well as a majority of the holes have unique tonals made from propane tanks. Some of the tanks are up pretty high off the ground, so come early to learn the course. Camping and facilities near by.
Aug 8th Mary's Farm - Goldstream Victoria. This private course is located near the Goldstream estuary at the foot of Mt. Finlayson in Victoria. It is a equestrian area that is converted into a beautiful, very difficult 18 hole course with a good mixture of baskets and tonals. There are some really long shots here, so brush up on rollers and distance drives to stay on par.
Sept. 20 Fir Meadows Courtenay. This course is a smaller 9 hole basket course set around a playground near a school. It is very technical and not very long, but has the ability to challenge even the best players.
Oct. 3 Bowen Park Finals - Nanaimo. This is one of the nicest courses in BC, boasting two separate sets of teepads, 18 baskets and well maintained fairways in the heart of Nanaimo - the perfect environment to wrap up the Summer Series.
